「彼は私に真実を言った」——say me? tell me? この4つの動詞は、日本語ではすべて「言う・話す」になってしまいます。
使い分けの基本の型は後ろに何が来るかです。say は内容、tell は人+内容、speak / talk は「話す行為」です。

よくある間違い①：say の後ろに人を置く

よくある間違い②：tell の後ろに内容だけを置く
× She told that she was tired.
tell は原則人が先です。人を言わないなら say を使います。
