- without はif 節の代わりになる

よくある間違い①：主節に仮定法を使い忘れる
× Without water, life on Earth does not exist.
「存在しないだろう」という現在の事実に反する仮定なので、主節は仮定法（would + 原形）にします。
○ Without water, life on Earth would not exist.
よくある間違い②：過去の仮定で時制を間違える
× Without your help, I would fail the exam.（昨日の試験の話）
過去の事実に反する仮定なら、主節は would have + p.p. にします。
○ Without your help, I would have failed the exam.
