and は「いちばん近い同じ形」を結ぶ
同じ and でも、主節の V どうしか、従属節内の V どうしか、名詞の列挙かで階層が違います。「直前と同じ形」を後ろに探します。

and のレベルを取り違えない
analyzed … and found …（主節の V）と exercised … and maintained …（who 節内の V）は別の階層。どのレベルの並列かを見極めます。

代動詞 do / did は前の動詞句の代用
did neither ＝ neither exercised nor maintained …。did は前の動詞句の代用、neither は「どちらも〜ない」を表す代名詞（did の目的語）です。中身を補って読みます。
